Genetically Modified Labeling Policies in Meatrix Trilogy

Discussion 4-1a Factory Farming
For this discussion forum you must post your responses to the following questions (100 words minimum);
1. After watching the Meatrix trilogy and the other footage (see power point or go here - http://www(dot)themeatrix(dot)com/ (Links to an external site.) and watch all three,) please comment on the rise of the factory farming 'machine.' How has this happened? What are some of the hazards and disadvantages of this type of farming? What are some of the advantages? What affect is this having on the family farm?
2. Now that you have learned a bit about types of farming, what are your choices as a consumer? If you don't want to support factory farms, what are some of your other choices? I have chosen to become a vegetarian, but you don't have to go to that extreme.... I am also trying to buy less packaged goods to decrease our intake of GMFs. The good news is, there ARE choices nowadays - we just have to be aware of what they are!

After doing some research on-line and reading through the power-point presentation, please take some time to post your thoughts on the use of GMFs. Feel free to post pros OR cons regarding this procedure -- it would be great to get a good debate going. And please comment on patenting, suicide seeds and corporate responsibility. Also, what do you think about the labeling guidelines (or lack thereof...?) California and Washington tried passing legislation to require GMF labeling, but the big corporations (mostly Monsanto,) paid millions of dollars to shoot them down. Other states have been in similar situations...
