The contamination of biological and physical components in the environment causing a disruption of processes of the environment is referred to as environmental pollution (Spengler, and Sexton, 122) Pollution of the environment is in my line of thought is caused by various factors especially those attributed by human beings which include the release of industrial effluents that have not been removed of toxins into rivers, lakes or oceans. Leak of oil pipes into the environment, road transport leads to air pollution due to emission of gas into the atmosphere, release of plastics into the environment causes blockage of drainage leading to floods and waterborne diseases and last but not least there are agricultural activities which release toxins from the pesticides and chemical fertilizers causing the land to become barren rendering it unproductive.
Some of the reforms take to control and reduce environmental pollution include adoption of environmental policies by governments and institutions, creation of awareness on the importance of clean environment to the public, including environmental education to schools for learners to appreciate the environment at a young age and formation of environmental groups that advocate on environmentalism for example Greenpeace. As adults parents, teachers and siblings we should teach the young generation ways of maintaining and conserving our environment. Environmental pollution occurs in different ways as it affects different aspects of the environment which include; air, water, land, noise, nuclear and light pollution.
Air pollution can be mitigated reduced or regulated through government policy bans on usage and manufacture of various items. Governments have control of policies used in their countries hence can control environmental condition of our country through policies. Coal emits poisonous gases while being burnt for example sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide and heavy metals such as mercury. All these emissions pollute the atmosphere with big impacts on animals and plants. The clean air act forces industries to reduce their emissions of coal on the atmosphere (Natural Resources Defense Council, 22). The enforcement of the Kyoto protocol on climate change that aims at committing states to reduce (UNFCC). Air pollution can be regulated by through environmental education, Kyoto protocol and the clean air act.
Actions to be taken to control air pollution include; regulated use of personal vehicles in order to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the use of vehicles, following regulations formulated under the environmental act and clean act. These laws should be followed strictly to ensure healthy lives for all living creatures. Some of the projects that can be implemented to promote control of air pollution include; creating awareness on the importance of trees in regulating the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere hence encouraging them to plant trees and take care of them, planting trees on roadsides and watering them to promote green vegetation cover and also control pollution of greenhouse gases emitted from the vehicles and rationing of traffic on roads (Pack, 476.)
