Water, plastic, paper, metal (aluminum), etc. are the primary materials that Coca-Cola uses in their operations.
The usage of these materials contributes towards global pollution.
Depending on the sourcing, the usage of these materials may affect local people negatively (water in particular).
Plastic packaging litter negatively affects wildlife populations and the environment in general.
Many consumer advocacy and environmental groups and activists have publicly condemned the company for its past unethical actions regarding the usage of these materials.

Various organizations have come up with several ways of mitigating the plastic pollution problems. Companies such as Adidas and Interface have indulged in using recycled wastes to produce newer products as a way of saving the case (Peker, 2019). Coca-Cola Company has also embarked on using marine debris for manufacturing its bottles (Trozer, 2019). Besides, Coca-Cola started an activity to recollect the bottles from consumers for recycling as well as piloting the use of smart dispenser and recycled bottles. However, as much as all these efforts have made some efforts in dealing with the situation, the war against plastic packaging pollution is still far from being won (Chalabi, 2019). To mitigate this situation, it is essential to come up with a policy that will ensure that there is some monetary incentive for consumers who reuse or return used bottles. This had proven to have worked for the same Coca-Cola Company when they used the returnable glass bottles. Therefore, Coca-Cola should come up with an incentive that will ensure consumers return used containers to retailers to improve recycling.
