When teaching English Language Learners (ELLs), it is essential to see growth and improvement through comprehensive evaluation and assessments. There is a need to have a proactive approach to ensure that students' progress is evaluated and recorded as needed. After interviewing with the ESOL administrator, I have established that the school has a unique approach to monitoring and assessing students' progress.
Monitoring is an important technique used in the management of classes. The goal of monitoring is to ensure the learners attain accuracy and fluency. Moreover, monitoring is an important aspect that provides all the lesson plan aspects are adhered to without fail. It is the basis of establishing the effectiveness of the learning process. The monitoring within the school is done through hearing or listening to students' conversations. This gives teachers a realistic perspective of the student's abilities.
With regard to assessment, the school has a comprehensive approach that ensures proficiency in speaking and writing is evaluated. The schools mainly utilize rubrics and performance criteria. These are important in ensuring that student's work is evaluated based on their academic progression and proficiency.
