Effects of Video Games on College Students
Video gaming has become a new norm to spend time in the US and has increased, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teenagers a willing to invest a lot of their time and resources in video games as a source of part and option of using their leisure time. Reports from a study carried out in 2016 indicate that consumers in the US spent around $250 purchasing gaming hardware (Video Game Industry, n.d.). While gaming is considered to impact users, such as low depression positively, they are particularly addictive and have adverse effects on users' mental and physical health. Since video gaming effects can be more harsh than productive, college students should stop playing them.
Impacts of video games
One of the major concerns college students should be concerned about is their academic performance and other related fields that would impact their future. This knowledge makes video games a major concern as it affects school performance. Research has indicated that video games make students spend less time on their assignments or studies and worsens their academic performance (Dewar, 2018). Moreover, teachers raised concerns about students' academic problems with access to video games (Dewar, 2018). The disadvantages of video games in school performances make us question whether it is worth jeopardizing one's future for a game and showing the importance of quitting students' gaming habits.
