The increase in video game access also brought about an increase in the access towards the ‘violent’ genre that has generated a debate between parents and other concerned groups. As early as 2008, it was reported that about 97% of American children (aged 12 to 17) had access to video games and around “two-thirds of them played action and adventure games that tend to contain violent content” CITATION Har10 \l 1033 (Harvard.Edu, 2010). Thus, considering that video game access has exponentially increased for the past 12 years, the author strongly believes that children should be banned from playing violent video games due to their unpredictable effects on children.
Why should Violent Games be Banned?
One of the main reasons why kids should be banned from playing violent video games is because it increases their aggressive behaviors. In one study, the authors have noted that children who are most likely exposed to violent content are also more likely to become aggressive, violent, and indifferent towards violence CITATION AAC15 \l 1033 (AACAP.Org, 2015). In other words, they do not only become aggressive but also tend to become more open towards the idea of committing violent behavior.
