Community Organizations and the Direct and Indirect Project-Based Work

Essay Instructions:

(1) The readings this week cover both practical ways of working with a community organization (what to look for in a good partner, what to say when you reach out to them, etc.) and more abstract ideas (difference between direct and indirect/project based work, rights and responsibilities of service, etc). How do these practical and abstract ideas work together? How does this impact your expectations/fears about this experience?
(2) How do your possible choices from Week 1 Part I (What Is Service-Learning, daly ch 1_001, and ccny_grantee_2011_guardian) fit with what you have read so far? Armed with this new information, do some further research on your possibilities (check volunteer requirements, hours of operation, etc.) Next week you need to submit information on the organization you wish to work with for approval. What organization are you planning to submit for your assignment next week and why?
If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.
