Sustainable Energy: Scientific Principles of Sustainability and Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest-Controlled Experiment
The three principles of sustainability include biodiversity, dependence on nutrient and chemical recycling and recognizing the significance of the solar energy in sustaining life (Miller & Spoolman, 2012). These three principles relate to Hubbard Brook forest-controlled experiment. In this experiment, scientists aimed to compare the loss of nutrients and water from two different habitats in New Hampshire: one that was stripped of the trees (experimental site) and the ecosystem that was uncut (control experiment) (Green, n.d). Results obtained indicated that soil erosion in the deforested ecosystem resulted in the dissolved nutrients being carried away and thus the loss of nutrients in the scale of 6-8 times compared to the control forest.
