Elements of Critical Thinking
Critical thinkers identify premises and conclusions by breaking arguments into rudimentary statements and by drawing rational implications. Second, they clarify arguments. This element entails locating vagueness and ambiguity in propositions as well as arguments. Thirdly, they establish facts by determining if premises are reasonable and identifying missing information (Plecner, 2014). The fourth element is the evaluation of logic. This element is achieved by determining whether or not the premises support the deduction. Lastly, critical thinkers conduct a final evaluation where they weigh the available evidence and the arguments. Supporting data, evidence, and logic improve the weight of the given argument.
