The Castle Doctrine is a legal statute that permits using lethal force against an intruder without necessarily retreating from the situation (Findlaw, 2021). It is regarded as a self-defense law that protects an individual from criminal prosecution and civil liability for using deadly force against an intruder attempting to gain an illegal entry into private property. One of the primary reasons the doctrine has changed over the years is that it has triggered gun violence in the US.
