The Castle Doctrine is a legal statute that permits using lethal force against an intruder without necessarily retreating from the situation (Findlaw, 2021). It is regarded as a self-defense law that protects an individual from criminal prosecution and civil liability for using deadly force against an intruder attempting to gain an illegal entry into private property. One of the primary reasons the doctrine has changed over the years is that it has triggered gun violence in the US. Castle Doctrine reduces one's ability to retreat if an intruder invades private property, and many citizens are purchasing guns to protect their belongings (Dalloz, 2012). This has caused many unjustifiable deaths. Another key reason for the change is to lessen the ability of the civilians to take justice with their own hands.
