1945 To Present Name Institution Date The 1964 Civil Rights Act was monumental as it restrained discrimination against African Americans. President Kennedy supported the Act, but he was assassinated in 1963 and it was passed the following year under President Lyndon B. Johnson. While the Constitution highlighted that people were to be treated equally, this was not the case with African Americans being discriminated and many were not allowed to vote.
