1945 To Present
The 1964 Civil Rights Act was monumental as it restrained discrimination against African Americans. President Kennedy supported the Act, but he was assassinated in 1963 and it was passed the following year under President Lyndon B. Johnson. While the Constitution highlighted that people were to be treated equally, this was not the case with African Americans being discriminated and many were not allowed to vote. The adoption of the Act, also paved way for enacting other anti-discrimination laws where Civil Rights were respected. The judiciary also made decisions to strike down clauses that were discriminatory, and combined with the fight for Civil Rights across all sections of the society, there were more protests from Civil rights advocates and event student leaders the...
