Reflect on your philosophy documented in week 1 of this course. How (if at all) would you alter this philosophy at the conclusion of this course? Why?
Personal Teaching Philosophy
The brain is a muscle, and like any other muscles, it requires to develop. Instead of lifting weights, however, brain muscle can be trained through learning. Learning involves adding to the current knowledge with new knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and perceptions (Prozesky, 200). As a teacher, my focus is on the encouragement of mastery of skills, serving as a mentor, and encouraging life-long learning habits. I want my students to be open-minded so that they may have different perceptions and understanding of the world. Students should not be confined to the schedules of the current curriculum. Instead, I prefer my students to open up and tell their stories as they are without fear.
For this teaching foe philosophy, I tend to focus more on practical and real-life situations rather than just theory. One way of delivery in my teaching philosophy is through the application of case studies where students try to solve real-life situations. Team-based learning is another key concept of my philosophy. I encourage students to complete tasks in groups to promote teamwork and for students to learn from each (Thurlings & van Diggelen, 2019). For instance, I have cases where my students interact with older students and learn from them, not necessarily classroom material. Lastly, teaching involves a lot of simulation and experimentation to allow for innovation and creativity.
One of my fundamental way of evaluating students in this philosophy is by monitoring their participation in group tasks, their level of skills being learned, understanding their take on the subject matter. I prefer that practical participatory exercises should carry more weight than the theoretical aspect of schooling (theory 40% and practical activities 60%). The aim is to produce wholesome students capable of navigating life dynamics, who must not necessarily seek white-collar jobs to lead a good life (Cox, 2020).
Students can learn a lot from a major in my discipline. For instance, the discipline requires one to express themselves freely and, respectively, without fear. Self-expression is essential because it helps students to communicate, express themselves, and accept themselves as well as global cultural diversity (Jabbar & Mirza, 2016). One problem students may encounter in this discipline is a tone of theoretical readings and less of practical exercises. Information obtained from the evaluation is critical in alternating lesson delivery to ensure that majority, if not all, benefit directly or indirectly.

To begin with, I believe that I would only alter a small portion of my philosophy towards the end of this course. When I analyze the philosophy, I still believe that the brain is a muscle that develops gradually through learned training. As prozesky asserts, human beings usually develop their brains by adding to the existing skills, knowledge, attitudes, values, and perceptions by gaining additional new ones. More so, I still hold my initial notion that students and other people can only develop their brains by being open-minded towards different perceptions and understanding in the world. However, after the course, one concept that I feel need to incorporate is the need to be consistent and have a particular stand or ideology. Although development, if the brain is about learning new things, I now believe that having certain beliefs will help ensure that human beings are consistent in their lives and will be identified for particular ideologies.
