Introduction
The complex nature of corporate environments makes leadership different, varied, and equally daunting. Various styles of leadership merge to draw out the performance of each individual, team, and organization. In nursing, some of the two styles combined include transformational leadership and shared governance. Ross and Kendal (n.d) elaborated that transformational leaders are the major examples of their subordinates, working to show how everything is done. Inspiration, rapport, mobilization form major tenets of transformational leadership. For shared governance discussed by McKnight and Moore (2019), both the leaders and the nurses on service share ideas on the best procedures for their work, resources needed, staffing, and working modules. The two groups ensure proper satisfaction in their jobs, with each side working to fulfill their objectives. The combination of transformational and shared governance greatly contribute to perfected practice in nursing, including perfected leadership styles. This article describes the changes in the tenets of leadership styles mentioned herein, their influence on nursing, and the applicability to my nursing journey and scholarly study.
The evolvement of Leadership Styles
Transformational leaders aim at changing the philosophy of the people below them in rank. The first consideration is the working environment, the conditions, through inspiration and morale building. When directly transferred to nursing, a leader must work to change the way a healthcare facility operates, the goals, and objectives, while keeping the clients fully satisfied. The evolvement of the transformational leadership style is from changing what existed before. Most leaders, not only in nursing, change the philosophies of work everywhere they lead. This adds to solving the challenges faced in their organizations. Additionally, understanding the organizations then prioritizing on what to change works well for leaders. The last procedure is ensuring their teams deliver to their most excellent levels. These changed happen procedurally, with the evolving nature of business environments. In nursing, the changes happen as technology changes over time. This takes time to show, and effect as most leaders work on it slowly.
Shared governance involves full engagement between the leaders and the nurses. McKnight and Moore (2019) agree that an agreement must be reached to enable proper changes in nursing. The engagement is all over the nursing system to ensure a positive impact by everybody. The impact each individual has on the nursing field is felt in every section in the course of work. One key pillar of shared governance in nursing is communication that relays important information from the juniors to the senior members of the organization and vice versa. Nursing leaders need to understand everything ailing the nurses, the organizations, and respond by consultative engagement of all the stakeholders to adopt a change plan.
