Traditional learning has always entailed having to go and sit down within designated classrooms and get taught by an educator. It has been the most used form of learning over the past years, and actually in all the countries around the world. With the development of technology and increased globalization, there is increased interconnection between people from various geographical locations. This has in turn meant that one can learn right from his or her location through online learning. It has given the learners new experiences and expanded the realms of education to new grounds. However, class learning still has its own advantages too. Weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the two modes of learning is the central argument of this paper.
Education is one of the most affected areas during this global pandemic of coronavirus. Many nations globally have suspended learning until the crisis ends, most importantly when cure and vaccine is found. This situation has put many nations to give online learning a second thought. Initially, at the college level in the US it was compulsory for students to take one unit to study online. Nowadays online learning and tutoring has become a normal trend. The state government has advised the education system to embrace this form of digital learning for units that can easily be handled by students. For technical units, learning materials in areas that students can easily read and understand are being delivered. While many education systems globally are turning to this virtual route, the methods of learning online have to be improved more. In my point of view, having classes in school with teachers and classmates improves our study efficiency.
While many education programs are turning to online learning, many teachers and institutions have realized the importance of face to face learning between instructors and students in the classroom. Students on the other hand also greatly see the difference and it has been a challenge to cope up with. Several pieces of research have proved that in-class learning offers better learning than online learning, and I greatly support this. Teaching in classes creates a learning atmosphere that lets students be more focused in class. In a research done by Hannah (2013) by interviewing Michigan university students on classroom learning, most of them were positive that in-class learning is the best.
