Short Paper 2

The discussion on colonialism is overdue as its effects are still raw within the indigenous population in Canada. Colonialism has been a distal determinant in indigenous health, culture, and the state of living for the people of this community. Addressing these issues is paramount to healing in this country and future policies need to necessitate the improvement of these relationships. This paper is my reflection on the whole issue to look at the bigger picture.
Question one
Social interactions are a necessary tool in creating a stable building block for society. By interacting, individuals come up with rules, institutions, and systems that work for their collective needs. As the readings portray, the prevention of social interactions leads to knowledge loss in society. CITATION Eco7 \l 1033 (Eco7) The traditions that are passed orally or through cultural festivals are bound to get diluted or eventually forgotten if interactions are stifled. The experiences of the Canadian Indigenous people are heartbreaking because they have had to experience loses in every aspect of living. Their culture is part of their identity and it looks like it’s something that is eroding slowly. Therefore, I look at their circumstances with a filter of empathy and understanding of their culture and identity.
Question 2
Yes, it does. The complexity in our shared history is down to the colonization period which set up certain factions for success and others for failure. The development interfered with their culture with dams, mining, and construction projects taking place in their ancestral lands. Loss of their land, culture, and identity meant that they had to choose and adjust to new ways of life. Parents were torn between taking their kids to schools or involving them in cultural activities such as harvesting. Therefore, I am interested in analyzing the developmental concepts from different perspectives; psychologically, socially, and economically.
Question 3
Yes, they have connected to my past experiences. Going through life and education is hard enough as one tries to forge their identity. I have had experiences that have forced me to try and fit in which usually ende...
