Nursing Shortage
Student's Name
Institutional Affiliation
Background
The main reason as to why there are notable medical errors in the country is the shortage of nurses within the hospitals. Therefore, for the hospitals to achieve improved clinical outcomes, the hospital management should strive to hire nurses who have the appropriate skills (Harris & McGillis, 2012). Although the demand for qualified nurses is high, the likelihood of hiring the best is reduced by nursing shortage among other problems. The administration should address this problem within its minimal resources possible to motivate nurses and minimize the risk of suffering from burnout (Harrington, Carrillo, & Garfield, 2015). In the process, the hospital will improve the quality of care, patient safety and outcomes, and nurse productivity. As well, other solutions that would improve the quality of medical health care in the hospitals should also be considered as a part of the solution to the nursing shortage. The world of technology is advancing, and hence, this calls for the hospitals to keep up with these changes. The use of computers makes work easier, hence enabling employees to accomplish more as compared to the absence of such computers.
Problem statement
Nurse staffing is a significant problem affecting many health institutions but recognizing and acknowledging the problem is an important effort in ensuring it is dealt with. Identifying the factors affecting nurse staffing is the next step. These factors include the shortage of competent nurses, and nurse education as well as nurse retention (Rosseter, 2014). Although nurses prefer where they are appreciated for what they do, shortage of skilled nurses remains a problem. This means that reducing nursing turnover and improving retention is the main way of addressing the problem of nurse staffing.
Purpose of the change proposal
The proposal will help hospitals and other facilities' administrations in establishing policies for helping in the hiring and retention of qualified and experienced nurses (Cox, Willis, & Coustasse, 2014). It will help also help nurses understand ways of increasing their efficiency while still maintaining high-quality care service delivery. For instance, the GetWellNetwork will be an insight into most of the hospitals that are still using the manual method of record keeping. The technology implementation is aimed at reducing the nursing shortage by freeing time for the available nurses hence making it easy for them to attend to many patients. This proposal will act as an educating tool to the hospitals that are suffering the shortage of nurses.
