Get involved in the advanced practice nursing community
This will be a short-term goal that is important to me because of the benefits available to members of such communities. This will be specifically important to me because transitioning from a registered nurse (RN) to a nurse practitioner (NP) requires a mentor who will help me navigate through the challenges and demands of NP’s role. According to Goolsby and Dubois (2017), professional nursing communities provide mentorship opportunities where novices are linked with experienced practitioners. The best strategy for achieving this goal is by researching the communities that suit my needs and are within my geographical area of practice.
Horn my Information analysis skills
An NP has more responsibilities than an RN because they have to attend to patients on their own, diagnose and treat them. As such, it is important in my transition that I am able to analyze patient information on charts and other sources as quickly and accurately as possible. Further, different patients are in different situations and analyzing their information is the best way to make a proper diagnosis and provide solutions that are evidence-based. The strategy to this will be familiarizing myself with different patient scenarios and gain in-depth clinical knowledge for easier information synthesis.
Time management
As a nurse practitioner, I will be responsible for a high load of patients, and I have to make decisions on my own, which requires good time management skills and an ability to adapt to situations as they occur.
