The hypothalamus forms the lower part of the diencephalon located just above the brain stem. At the bottom of the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland is attached (VIVO Pathophysiology, 2018). The pituitary glands comprise the anterior pituitary gland (the posterior lobe) and the posterior pituitary gland (the posterior lobe) (Johns Hopkins, 2021). The hypothalamus controls body functions such as temperature and regulation of blood pressure. When the homeostasis destabilizes, it communicates with the anterior and posterior pituitary gland directing them to release hormones. Hypothalamus communicates with the anterior pituitary gland by secreting the releasing and inhibiting hormones (VIVO Pathophysiology, 2018).
