Nursing professionals can play an imperative role in improving health care delivery. In this context, advocacy for policy change is an important consideration for ensuring that there is a sustainable health care delivery with support from the government who facilitate various aspects of care delivery. The formulation of good policies is the basis of ensuring that the governments at the local, state and federal levels can engage effectively. The policies offer a framework, which can be implemented across the jurisdiction and can be enforced through the legal system. The increased changes in various aspects of health care require changes in policies that conform to the new conditions presented by the society. Domestic violence has been a persistent vice that is addressed by both state and federal laws. Nevertheless, the changing nature of relationships that are acceptable by the law, including gay marriages as well as the impact domestic violence has on the family and the society requires a new approach in legislation.
