Personal Goal Statement
Since I was young, I have always admired to live in a community surrounded by happy families. As I grew up, and realized that a happy family is a healthy family and it dawned on me that a healthy family would not exist if there are no determined and enthusiastic FNPs. This was the beginning of the conceptualization of my career as an FNP. I began to develop the interest in becoming an FNP and even went ahead to inquire what it would take me achieve my career dream. My high school teacher advised me to be keen on science subjects, helped me obtain good the science subjects and secured a slot to do BSN in the university where I studied clinical training in family medicine. The course has helped me develop patience, good communication skills, how to be calm and the ability to treat every member of a family with humility. Additionally, I have developed empathy for patients and respect for human dignity despite the circumstances.
There are so many long-term career goals that I would wish to achieve. First, I would like to be a medical practitioner who provides safe and evidence-based care that adheres to practice ethics and creates room for interpersonal collaboration. Also, I would develop a career that emulates technology in the provision of services to reduce the cost of healthcare through enhanced efficiency. I would love to do more research so as to add more evidence for the provision of healthcare and guide leadership decisions. I would not rest until I achieve a doctorate in FNP. I am confident that the Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing will help me achieve these career goals as its vision, mission, and the program objectives reflect my goals. In particular, the mission aims at advancing art and science of nursing through conducting research and offering the students with a high quality education that would see me a scholar who can deliver high-quality services as a practitioner and participate in research that provides evidence for healthcare provision.
Therefore, I am applying to this school because of the determination and dedication that is reflected in its mission, vision, and objectives for its students that all focus on offering high-quality education and providing an opportunity for the students to conduct research so as to acquire first-hand skills for delivering the services to the family and the community. In the dean's message, I learned that the school is focused on producing professionals who are diverse and excellent in nursing care. This is achieved through the application of Roy Model which, among others, aims at boosting individual’s self-esteem which is the greatest driver in achieving success in career development.
