Personal Statement
My passion in Biology began when I was young. I had a deep desire in gaining deeper knowledge concerning the physiological processes involved in the growth and development of plants and animals around my compound. Later in life, I realized that I could get to do this much better by specializing as a biological researcher and help in disseminating knowledge concerning the importance of such small but fundamental aspects of life. In my quest to position myself into building the right foundation for my passion, I was lucky to qualify for a Professional Second-Class Scholarship to study Biotechnology in the Northwest A&F University in the fall of 2012. I found opportunities to interact with my fellow students in exchange of knowledge, which elevated me to be a team leader and team captain of the College of Science debate team. This exposed me to understanding my field even more.
In my activities as an upcoming researcher, I got to develop a liking for Cellular and Molecular Biology and desired to attain the highest pinnacle of knowledge in it. In a research on Prokaryotic Expression and Purification of Topoisomerse of Vaccinia Virus, where I worked under Dr. Peng Chen in Yanglin, China; I was opportune to be the group leader of the undergraduate scientific program. The research program exposed me to the requirements of practical-based research, and the fundamentals of cellular and molecular biology. I also assisted Dr. Aimee Jalkanen of Colorado State University in her mRNA Decay in Stem Cells research, to Investigate the Unusual poly(A) tail dynamics of Zinc finger protein MRNAs. The two researches were invaluable in gaining practical experience in the field of Cellular and Molecular biology, which I wish to pursue.
I therefore want to gain precious knowledge and experience in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology as a researcher and a consultant. I believe by having my PhD in the field will enable me to attain my career goal of being a researcher with an international reputation. I desire to add to the existing knowledge by carrying a research on Safeguarding Genomic Integrity from Genotoxic Stresses. The synopsis reads “DNA repair or DNA damage responses are under sophisticated controls that must be accurately and rapidly executed, when the genome integrity is challenged. Understanding the molecular regulation of DNA damage response factors that promote genome stability is a significant subject for basic biological perspective as well as clinical aspects. Our lab studies molecular mechanisms of maintaining genome integrity, by studying the functions of proteins involved in DNA damage response and DNA repair.â€
My long-term goal is to establish a knowledge base in genetic engineering by carrying collaborative research with researchers in the Cellular and Molecular Biology field. Gaining my PHD will enable me to gain an authorita...
