Walden University’s Mission and Vision
After being in the healthcare industry for 20 years serving as a nurse, I have learned that the most significant thing in my career is getting the best institution that would nurture me in becoming an excellent scholar. Having come from the minority group, I am good at advocacy and awareness. Despite working in case management, I have provided services in different areas in nursing. I chose Walden University School of Nursing to pursue my Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) since it is an accredited higher education institution with over 45 years and offers a proper learning experience to working healthcare professionals.
The vision and mission of Walden University are essential in helping me to achieve my academic goals in the journey of becoming a scholar-practitioner. The mission statement portrays that the institution offers an opportunity to a diverse group of healthcare professionals in transforming themselves into scholar-practitioners who have a positive impact on social change (Walden University, 2020). The vision statement makes it clear that Walden University provides up-to-date knowledge to its graduates so that they can handle upcoming societal challenges and promote the well-being of the international community. For Walden University to facilitate effective learning and a positive social change, the school is committed to student-centeredness, comprehensive and diverse curriculum, scholar-practitioner model, and the real-world application of knowledge.
Furthermore, Walden University’s nursing school vision envisions being recognized as a prominent twenty-first-century institution that significantly contributes to nursing and health-related sciences that transform healthcare services and fulfill the needs of people, local, and international communities. Specifically, its mission statement is to provide rigorous cultural and academic educational programs that foster evidence-based practices, scholar-practitioner model, and enhance critical thinking skills to transform contemporary society (Walden University, 2020).
