Mortality Rates among Hispanic Americans
The Hispanic community constitutes the largest minority group in the United States. It constitutes 18.9% of the total American population. Sadly, the Hispanic community has been experiencing a high mortality rate over the years compared to the general population (Lariscy et al., 2015). There are many leading causes of large mortality rates and constant illness among Latinos. Research data from the Center for Disease and Control as of 2022 reveal that Hispanics' leading causes of death are HIV AIDS, stroke diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer, asthma and cerebrovascular diseases. Poor healthcare services among Hispanics are equally contributed to social determinants like lack of access to quality healthcare, cultural and linguistic barriers (McDonald & Paulozzi, 2019). This shows the healthcare disparity issues that exist among the Hispanic community.
