While working in the hospital, it has always been difficult for me to explain to poor patients why they would not get the same treatment that is being provided to rich patients. As a nurse, it is my responsibility to make them understand, but the previous month, the situation got out of control when a poor child whose parents were not able to bear his treatment costs insisted to receive the same treatment (chemotherapy) which was being provided to another cancer patient of the same ward.
I continued providing him the said treatment even though the child wept for many hours. Next time, when I come across such a situation, I will definitely request the hospital management to take the Principle of Justice into consideration, meaning the poor and rich patients should be provided with the same treatment facilities.
