Learning Goal 1
Learning Needs
After the assessment, I feel that I am not confident when monitoring patients’ vital signs like heart rate and blood pressure. I lack the skills to connect the required electrodes to specific points of the body to get the required readings. While taking these measurements, I lack the techniques to keep patients calm before and after the examination. Sometimes I have found some patients very uncomfortable, and I have struggled to assure them that what I do is essential. In the process, I have lost confidence in undertaking telemetry, and sometimes I request one of the experienced nurses to undertake it. I attribute this to a lack of training in the area. According to Price & Reichert (2017), lacking confidence in some aspects of practice fuels the desire to undertake more training.
Learning Goals
I will demonstrate increased confidence when handling patients. Such improved confidence will assist me in providing better services to patients. Clients will be the primary beneficiaries of the changes that result from the training. Further, other healthcare team members will benefit from the changes. I will be better placed to collaborate with them to improve patient wellbeing. I hope to see results six months into the training, where I will allow my nursing supervisor to assess my ability to interact with patients when taking vital signs.
Learning Activities and timelines
1. Complete telemetry education within a year. I plan to start the telemetry education on 1st November 2022 and complete it by 30th April 2023.
2. Attend a workshop on pediatric care by the end of February 2023
Doing this course will require me to get the necessary textbook resources and videos. I will require textbook resources to enable me to see charts, graphs, and pictures since I learn by visualizing. Further, the videos will enhance my auditory learning style, where I can see someone monitoring a patient's vital signs, say blood pressure. According to Ab Latif, Yuso, Mui & Ibrahim (2019), students learn differently. I will combine the two learning styles to enhance my understanding of the area. I may encounter time restrictions. Working in a healthcare setting while at the same time undertaking a course may be challenging. I intend to overcome this challenge by engaging my nursing supervisor to allow me more time to attend the required classes.

Learning Needs
Based on the experience I have, I feel that I do not possess the required assessment skills. I need to develop assessment skills, especially when dealing with children. I have a challenge when handling children and their parents or guardians, especially with my communication skills. This has inhibited my effectiveness in undertaking the required assessments. I also need to enhance my skills in undertaking physical examinations, taking required measurements, and observing vital signs.
