Developmental markers/milestones refer to things that most children can do at a given age. Nurses draw important conclusions using these markers by assessing how the children engage in plays, talk, learn, make movements, and act. Besides, anthropometric measurements such as measuring the bone, muscles, and adipose tissue seek to assess body composition. The assessment of weight, height is also a critical and reliable method of monitoring the health of children (Neyzi et al., 2015). The 9-month-old girl in this case weighs 6.75kg, which is the 5th percentile according to the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) growth chart. The infant is also 68.5cm in length (25th percentile as per the CDC growth chart). Nurses should assess the social behaviors and emotions, language/communication, cognitive abilities, and movement or physical development of the infant (CDC, 2020). Under social and emotional behaviors, the 9 month-old infants should express fear when approached by strangers, clingy with adults known to her, and have a preference for some toys. Language and communication at this age include the understanding of the word “no”, making different sounds such as “mamama” or “babababa”, copying or imitating gestures and sounds made by others, and using her fingers to point at different things/objects. Cognitive abilities will include watching the paths when something is falling, looking for things when she sees when they are hidden, and putting things in her mouth. Her movement and physical development at this age should enable her to stand or hold on things, get into a sitting position and sit without help from adults, and crawl.
