Healthcare Culture
All organizations have methods and customs specific or internal to their operations. These methods and customs help define behavior and conduct in these organizations, thus forming an organization’s culture. Healthcare organizations also have their own customs, traditions, methods, and behaviors specific to their internal operations. Employees have to learn the culture of an organization to be able to acclimatize and assimilate upon making transfers. Developing these cultures or customs is crucial because it helps organizations have identities. However, in developing these identities, organizations have to be careful to avoid getting bad reputations because of a disjointed identity. A lot of factors are dependent on these identities, including customer satisfaction, profitability, and employee satisfaction.
Definition of Healthcare Culture and a Culture of Excellence and Safety
Healthcare culture mainly entails the patterns of behavior that are showcased within a healthcare organization. Excellence and safety are not limited to the patients but extend to the healthcare professionals working in an organization. In such an environment, the quality of healthcare is upheld, and the patients trust the healthcare professionals. Values such as dignity, respect, compassion, and diligence are practiced in an environment upholding excellence and safety. The statement above mainly indicates that the values, norms, and customs of a healthcare organization support and promote excellence and safety.
One principle that can be used to build a culture of excellence and safety is creating value for the customers. When an organization seeks to create value for the customers, they adopt measures that help ensure that customers have a reason for choosing the organization. They can change their way of doing things or introduce an advantageous package for customers. Another principle that can be employed is the principle of continuous improvement. An organization should never be satisfied with its current position and should be ready to make changes whenever c...
