Argentina is one of the Latin American countries that blend the indigenous cultures and the European cultures particularly Spanish customs, courtesies, and behaviors. Its unique culture profoundly affects the flow of revenue and the social responsibilities of corporations established in the country. Companies like Coca-Cola have a global outreach and have established their distribution plants in various countries. Argentina presents Coca-Cola with new market opportunities due to its culture and a large population that has undergone exponential growth in recent years. Coca-Cola needs to adhere to government policies, customs, behaviors, cultures, subcultures, and social responsibilities of Argentina to promote its products, increase sales and profits.
Social, Cultural, and Sub-cultural Challenges posed to Coca Cola
Argentine culture is characterized by solidarity and group behaviors due to the influence of Spanish resistance. Individualism which is accepted in capitalist nations is considered unethical in Argentina. People are encouraged to work together, share, face problems in groups to enhance human connection and solidarity. Unlike North American countries like Canada and the United States; people in Argentina predominantly speak Spanish, Italian, and other indigenous languages (Ardila, 2020). Argentines’ social behaviors and communication patterns are significantly different from Western cultures. Coca-Cola marketers and employees from Western countries may face challenges such as language barriers, inconsistency in communication patterns, and cultural norms. Besides, Argentine cultures promote the consumption of local beverages such as tea, coffee, yabe mate, Torrontes, and malbec which may make it difficult for Coke and other Coca-Cola products to penetrate the Argentinian markets.
Social factors significantly influence organizational outcomes. Argentines embrace their local cultures more than local cultures and Coca-Cola’s responsibility supports their norms, ethical standards, and behavior.
