Fitting into the IOM Future of Nursing Recommendations

The IOM nursing report is one of the most interesting and most brilliant ideas ever raised by the nursing body. It came at the right time, when the world was at the precipice of technological revolution, which would also affect the health sector in various ways. There were various recommendations made, which include doubling the number of nurses with doctorates, engagement in lifelong learning as well as also increasing the number of those with a baccalaureate.
I see myself fitting in the recommendation to increase the number of nurses with a degree by being well on course for getting one of my own as well. I believe that this will not only help me in getting the much needed knowledge for the various processes involved in the field, but also setup a platform upon which I can use to even go further in pursuing a doctorate. It is even great, considering that I will be completing my degree course way before the 2020 deadline placed by the IOM recommendations for the same (Davis, 2011). While pursuing my own academic goals of a degree, I have also kept in mind the importance of a collective effort, and hence, tried convincing my friends in the same field to go ahead and pursue a degree course. So far, a few of them have seen the sense and therefore are in the process of enrolling for the program as well.
Upon the completion of my BSN course, I believe that I will be absorbed into the workforce, and hence be able to use my skills to perform duties and help save lives. After a few years of service, I believe I will have acquired the much needed experience to move further and enroll for my doctorate program. This will also be well in line with the ...
