There is an estimated 267,000 advanced practice registered nurses in the United States. These represent a significant force in the healthcare practices in all the states. More importantly, they are the face of the health care system in the United States. The Consensus Model is a framework that offers the APRNs a uniform approach to practice across all the states. It defines the nursing roles for the nurses bridging the gaps in practice to ensure quality care across the board. Where there are differences between the states, this means that there are barriers to portability and more importantly present a barrier to professionalism.
The duties of an APRN include providing competent care to the patients at all levels. This is an element that requires to be well trained in the first place.
