Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a systematic and holistic patient-oriented approach in healthcare services. The primary elements include clinical expertise, research evidence, and patient values and circumstances (Vingerhoets, Hay-Smith, & Graham, 2020). All these components are essential, and they help identify a problem based on an accurate assessment of the current professional practice and knowledge. Health professionals use EBP by researching contemporary and relevant information, which they apply to the case at hand. They share knowledge and clinical expertise with others, hence addressing numerous health problems.
EBP entails the proper integration of the patient values and circumstances, research evidence, and clinical expertise. Some of the barriers that health professionals encounter when trying to use EBP revolves around searching and applying the best research evidence.
