In the global world of technology, social media has played a vital role in becoming the number one influencer of most aspects of people's lives globally, entailing different apps connecting one person to another whereby information is shared widely. The purpose of this paper is to uncover how media use can violate ethical nursing practices and how it can benefit patients and health care professionals.
Healthcare is a critical profession that requires the highest standards of ethical conduct, especially on the nursing practitioners (Ventola 2014). Social media use can violate nursing's ethical practice, i.e., patient privacy and concentration when providing patient care. Social media can cause violation of patient confidential information whereby patient medical history is aired out to the public through posting of patient's medical conditions and photos of the patient. With that, the patient's privacy is violated. When at work, nurses must concentrate when giving patient care and not on social media platforms connecting to the outside world.
