In this exercise, you will complete a 5-essay type question Knowledge Check to gauge your understanding of this module’s content.
The circulatory system and the respiratory system are powerful partners in health. While they work closely together in good health, a disease or disorder that manifests in one can have a significant impact on both, hampering the pair’s ability to collaborate.
Cardiovascular and respiratory disease and disorders are among the most common reasons for hospital visits, and among the leading causes of fatality. Heart disease and pneumonias are among the most familiar, but a wide variety of issues can impact physiological functioning of one or both systems.

Myocarditis
The inflammation of the myocardium is medically termed myocarditis. The necrosis of myocyte cells is usually present for some types of myocarditis (Palaskas et al., 2020). One such type is lymphocytic myocarditis, usually caused by viruses and autoimmune responses. Other types of myocarditis include neutrophilic, reperfusion type, granulomatous, and eosinophilic (Ammirati et al., 2018). The inflammation is mainly seen as a diffuse process of the myocardium. However, there are cases of focal myocarditis, which happen in the right or left ventricles of the heart (Neilan et al., 2018). In the United States (US), approximately ten to twenty people are diagnosed with myocarditis out of one hundred thousand people annually (Golpour et al., 2021). The essay will address and apply the key terms that aid in communicating the pathophysiology of myocarditis to the patients. These terms will include the etiology, epidemiologic data, symptoms, and risk factors associated with myocarditis.
There are four major causes of myocarditis. The first is the presence of infectious agents that may originate from any part of the body (Neilan et al., 2018). The second cause is post-viral autoimmunity, which usually results after a viral attack. The third cause is the mediation of autoimmune response, as seen in the case of lupus myocarditis and giant-cell myocarditis (Ammirati et al., 2018). The fourth cause is a result of drug hypersensitivity.
Myocarditis patients usually show different symptoms, ranging from mild and non-specific signs to severe and more articulate symptoms. Severe symptoms include palpitations, death, and...
