Case Study on Moral Status
Fetal abnormality is a case study that has significant moral lessons. Jessica is a woman from Mexico and has stayed in the US for many years with her husband, Marco. After some time, Jessica was admitted of an abnormality in the fetus with Dr. Wilson as the primary attending physician. The fourth figure in the case study is Aunt Maria, who has unique beliefs. The case study is also significant since it has specific lessons and theories on the Christian views of hospitality and specific conditions that would lead to abortion. The main idea in the case study is how the issue of abortion is critically addressed and the theories that each party advocates for. The paper reflects on the case study by focusing on Christian beliefs and the effective moral theory that suits the situation.
Christian view on the nature of Human Persons
Christians have a unique view of human persons. For instance, they relate human persons to specific values such as trust, love, gratitude, glory, and affection (Delehanty et al., 2019). Besides, Christians view human persons based on their souls; they strongly believe that human persons have an immortal and God-given soul that shapes their values and interactions. Lastly, Christians view human persons as created uniquely in God's image (Doran, 2019). Therefore, once an individual dies, their soul becomes spiritual with the body remaining on the earth. The theory compatible with the belief is the virtue theory which focuses on good and ethical habits (WirelessPhilosophy, 2018). Christian upholds good habits since they are created in God's image. Lastly, the theory is related to dignity and intrinsic human value since the good habits that the Christian embraces are determined by their values, such as love and affection. Therefore, every Christian has the responsibility to love and care for one another.
Theories by Dr. Wilson, Maria, Marco, and Jessica
Dr. Wilson uses sentience theory; he believes that it is better to save the fetus from the future problem by imposing abortion. There are specific circumstances where abortion can be used to save the mother's or the child's life (Kamitsuka, 2018). Besides, Wilson believes that the fetus cannot make such a decision, and it is necessary to make a free decision for it. The evidence in the case study shows he uses this theory to safeguard the fetus's future by allowing abortion. Maria and Jessica, and Marco use the humanness theory to make their decision. The case study has specific evidence for every individual in holding the theory. For instance, after the Doctor suggests the abortion to Jessica, she is in a dilemma but concludes that the fetus also has the right to survival a...
