What is Thompson's argument?
Thompson was neither a defender nor an opposer of abortion through her reasonable debate on how abortion is perceived. Thompson claimed that most individuals or groups mentioned on abortion believe it is the killing of life since life starts immediately after conception and all people have a right to live (Thomson). This is also right, as per Thompson, but what precedes the statement troubles her about the consent to the abortion. Thompson claims that she has gone through several stages before the baby is born. Thompson went ahead to argue that a mother or the baby's carrier should have full rights on what should happen to their body rather than what they are carrying to be a determinant in the direction her life takes. In her argument, a mother knows her body well, and in case she is diagnosed with an issue that threatens her life while pregnant, she has the option to abort. Neither the mother nor the unborn is guilty, as argued by Thompson. While the mother tries to handle the complications, limited options are of keeping the baby and endanger her life or abort the baby and save her life. But if she chooses the latter, it would be killing. The opponents of abortion would not take the option of the mother aborting to be a lifesaver for her but committing murder in favor of the unborn child, argued Thompson.
Thompson argues that another mistake is letting third parties decide the fate of the pregnant mother. She clarifies her argument by mentioning that the baby is growing in the mother and that she alone should have the right to decide what action to take. Whether the pregnancy was out of consent or forcefully through situations such as rape, one should still not be judged by how it occurred but by how she feels about the problem and how it will affect her life.

This means she is not wrong in her arguments, and neither are the scholars wrong. In some cases, where abortion cannot be denied even by any court, the mother is in no condition to accept the reality; hence, no other option but abortion relieves the mental torture they are in.
