Leadership Strategies Course
Part 1
Course
Leadership skills among young and inexperienced nurses will be central to the course considering its importance to outcomes in clinical settings. However, leadership is a large prospect in healthcare, and the time allocated for this course, four hours, is not adequate to cover every aspect. To that effect, this course will focus on delegation, teamwork, motivation, and communication. Delegation is a key component of present-day leadership performance. As a leader, it is important to delegate some of the duties to the junior employees. If done correctly, delegation creates a learning platform for the young nurses while they remain under the supervision of an experienced leader (Boström & Hallin, 2013). Delegation is also a tool for motivation as it allows individuals to feel important and wanted in their roles. As a young leader, learning to delegate strategically is ideal for the overall outcomes in performance. Teamwork is another leadership prospect that inexperienced nurses should understand. In a clinical setting, it takes the inputs of teams to realize success. Young leaders must understand that teams constitute individuals with unique skills meant to complement one another. Enhancing team efficiency in healthcare settings is akin to achieving the set objectives for specific teams.
The course also delves into motivation and communication as key leadership strategies in contemporary clinical settings. Motivation constitutes a direct influence on an individual’s performance. Motivators give their employees the purpose to keep performing their duties (Boström & Hallin, 2013). Motivation can come directly from performance appraisal or indirectly through interpersonal interactions or the development of an ideal workplace climate. A lack of motivation among employees implies diminished drive to achieve goals. Ultimately, a leader needs to communicate. Communication eases understanding among team members. Leaders are encouraged to communicate with their employees consistently (Blevins, 2014). Leaders who do not communicate render their juniors second-guessing themselves, which is not ideal for a long-term relationship in a clinical setting.
Learning Styles
The course accommodates the different learning styles among the participants. The first group of learners is the visual learners who learn by seeing or reading through pictures. Visual learners must view what they are supposed to learn. This course will accommodate visual learners by including materials such as color, visual media, pictures, and images to include visualizations and imagery that are important to their participation. The following considerations are included for visual learners:
* Notable visual words in the assertions.
* Availability of different color pens or computers.
* Use of system diagrams to create a visualization of various leadership tools.
Auditory learners are the second group who will be included in the course. Auditory learners use their hearing skills to understand or remember the contents. To these learners, information is important based on how it sounds. The following stra...
