Reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
There are different definitions of evidence-based practice (EBP). However, each encompasses similar elements. A simple definition of EBP would be an approach that seeks to enhance healthcare through the integration of credible scientific research evidence. EBP also helps improve the decision-making process mainly because it ensures the integration of “the best available research evidence, client characteristics (including preferences), and resources” (Steglitz et al., 2015). Essentially, what EBP brings to healthcare is the translation of research evidence into practical and useful healthcare decisions. In doing the above, EBP enhances patient outcomes since only the best procedures, resources, research data, and clinical guidelines are used or considered. It is crucial to note that EBP is a continuous process in that it seeks to learn from itself for future improvement. What happens is that interventions are re-evaluated and improvements made to help improve healthcare as a whole. It is indeed a great addition, and the future looks brighter with the full integration of EBP in healthcare.
