There are various healthcare delivery models. They have been on the rise due to an increasing need for the best healthcare outcomes and value-based purchasing. There are a lot of healthcare providers that usually operate only on a small scale level, and hence have a greater need for the same. The various innovative healthcare models are enshrined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and, therefore, constitute an essential aspect of medical care. The need for such innovations has come as a result of the necessity to handle the rising capital costs as well as the ever-expanding hardware infrastructure needed. One example is the retail clinic, which incorporates an interdisciplinary care delivery team.
Retail clinics are one of the innovations in the health care delivery model. Most of these clinics are found in supermarkets, hypermarkets, chain stores, and other commonly visited places. They form a category known as Convenient Care Clinics (CCCs). This innovative health care model, retail clinics, is designed to create a faster and a well-organized care that is of good quality (AJMC, 2015). Retail clinics, in most cases, use the walk-in perspective, and others consider scheduling for appointments. In the walk-in view, patients need not have an appointment with the physician in charge. These retail clinic facilities can offer a prescription for the medication of specific ailments like headaches, abnormal rush, fever, and the common cold, among others. These clinics also can treat minor injuries like minor cuts and burns, back pain, and minor broken bones.
