To show that skill –based approach to leadership is effective; leaders take advantage of the interdependence of the three skills that include technical, human and conceptual skills. They are able to also identify the existing interrelationship that exists between the manager, the organization and the subordinates under his control. The skill-based approach to leadership enables leaders to see the need of working as a team in solving problem and also gather together support when trying to implement the necessary changes within the organization, without facing resistance. By acquiring human skills leaders are able to have social judgment skills that are necessary to handling unique issues that might arise (Katz, 1955).
There are several situations that a leader needs to be more tasks-oriented. Task-oriented leadership means focusing on the task laid ahead in order to achieve the targeted task. A task-oriented leader looks for step by step process of ensuring that the leads towards achieving the set task. For example, if a company manager has tasked all the departmental heads to develop a team building activity. A task-oriented leader in this case will break down the task then assign responsibilities based on individual’s abilities. A task-oriented leader assess before giving out any assignment by looking for the right person for each task (Katz, 1955).
