Describe the difference between research and quality improvement. Provide a workplace example where qualitative and quantitative research is applied and how it was used within your organization. Research focuses on evidence to replicate ideas, knowledge, practices, and standard of care. In health care settings, grants often fund research. Additionally, research focuses on systematic investigation, search for information and facts to improve knowledge. Quality improvement (QI) relates to the activities meant to enhance patient care and delivery (Gleeson et al., 2016). In quality improvement, decisions guided by data and clinical care resources are necessary to fund QI projects. There is more focus on different QI initiatives, such as projects to improve the quality of diabetes care and knowledge in various healthcare settings to promote better health outcomes.
Qualitative research focuses more on the real-life experiences of people, events, and phenomena.
