One of the legal issues is insufficient documentation and communication with appropriate parties regarding the child at risk of harming themselves or others. The failure to provide essential documentation is a concern as the documents capture the information on intervention undertaken, patient history, and risks. Suppose the client experiences suicidal ideation and thoughts, and the mental health practitioners know this. In that case, they need to communicate with the patients/ clients, parents, guardians, and staff, while also involving the courts. Failure to take action and subsequent suicide would result in the practitioner being held responsible.
