Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Discussion: Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
As your EBP skills grow, you may be called upon to share your expertise with others. While EBP practice is often conducted with unique outcomes in mind, EBP practitioners who share their results can both add to the general body of knowledge and serve as an advocate for the application of EBP.
In this Discussion, you will explore strategies for disseminating EBP within your organization, community, or industry.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the various strategies presented throughout the course that may be helpful in disseminating effective and widely cited EBP.
This may include: unit-level or organizational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Reflect on which type of dissemination strategy you might use to communicate EBP.

Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
The evidence-based practice (EBP) process involves several steps that must be taken to facilitate the effective application of EBP in healthcare. Dissemination of EBP is the last step in this process and various strategies can be utilized (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). One of the key strategies used in EBP dissemination is the poster presentation, which will be explored and reflected upon in detail in this paper.
Poster presentation entails the use of a visual approach to summarize and present the findings of research work (Moyo, 2019). I would use this type of dissemination strategy to communicate EBP because poster presentations can be used in local, regional, or national conferences. Since poster presentations provide a summary of the findings, it helps in removing redundancies in solving problems (Moyo, 2019). They also allow the audience to interact with each other as well as with the presenter when compared to other strategies such as podium presentations (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). As a result, participants can learn and share knowledge during the interaction. Also, poster presentations provide nurses with an opportunity to develop their public speaking skills, which are an important part of their professional development (Moyo, 2019). Evidently, poster presentations can be quite an effective tool for sharing ideas among professionals because it allows them to interact, ask questions, and challenge or contribute to new ideas. This is an important part of improving healthcare.
There are some challenges to using poster presentations that I should consider. These include lack of confidence and experience in public speaking, fear of criticism as well as lack of expertise in creating effective posters (Moyo, 2019). These challenges can hinder the successful dissemination of EBP using poster presentations. However, having an effective poster presentation can help boost the presenter's confidence and mitigate some of the challenges. Moyo (2019) sugges...
