High or low levels of certain elements in the body of an individual can be an indication of cancer. So, doctors have to conduct laboratory tests on the urine, blood and other body fluids to get a clear diagnosis. However, there exist some abnormal lab results which are not an indication of cancer, and it is for this reason that doctors cannot solely rely on lab tests to diagnose cancer. Doctors need to incorporate some tools to make a clear cancer diagnosis for instance imaging procedures which can be done in the following ways. CT scan where an x-ray device is linked to a computer and makes detailed images of the internal organs of an individual. The contrast in the pictures will indicate the problem for the doctor. Another way is through MRIs whereby a magnet that is linked to a machine takes images of the body of an individual (Garrido, 2016). The images are printed and used to diagnose a reported complication. In most cases, doctors require a biopsy to come up with a direct and clear diagnosis. A biopsy is done by the doctor extracting a sample of the affected tissue which is taken to a pathologist who views it under a microscope and indicates if it has cancer. The tissue can be removed in several ways, for instance, a doctor can use a needle to extract the fluid or tissue, and it can also be removed via surgery.
Stages of cancer
Despite the fact that there are many types of cancer, researchers agree that they all have four basic stages. First is stage zero (0) which is used to indicate cancer in ‘situ’ or place. Cancer in this stage is identified at the area where it first manifested itself but has not yet spread to affect nearby tissue. Cancer at this stage can be healed using traditional practices. The second stage is stage two whereby cancer has spread to a nearby tissue but not beyond as in it has no spread further into the system for instance into the blood. At this stage, doctors call for immediate commencing on the treatment. Then there is the third stage which is commonly known as stages two and three. They are commonly referred to as regional spread cancers, and they indicate that cancer has expanded deeply to the surrounding tissue. At this stage, doctors call for immediate treatment which in most cases is surgery. The final stage is stage four when the cancer has spread across organs and body parts. It is also referred to as distant spread or advanced cancer and is more difficult to treat. It is, however, important to note that treatment at this stage is not impossible many people around the world have recovered from this stage.
Complications of Cancer
Cancer can have various complications for instance:
Pain- although not all cancers are painful cancer causes pain. In many cases, people have complained of severe pains especially during the last stages of cancer. This pain can be treated with medications and other traditional methods of relieving pain.
Chemical changes in the body- cancer has been reported to nominal chemical balance in the body and can often increase the chances of developing serious complications. These chemical imbalances can be noted through some signs and symptoms, for instance, excessive thirst...
