Nurses stand to play a critical role in the management of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). They form a bulk of health workforce and as a result, they are primed to be front line soldiers in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC), is a crucial research health organization, which works with other partners in the dissemination of accurate and timely information. This paper will explore COVID-19 CDC information for health professionals in line with the role of nurses in the realm of global health.
After reviewing the COVID-19 information for health professionals, I choose infection control and prevention in cases of suspected or confirmed COVID-19. I find it important to educate nurses on this topic because this category of front line team can play a crucial role in the minimization of COVID-19 transmission.COVID-19 infection controlled is primed to prevent disease spread, reduce mortalities and burden on the healthcare system. Nurses need to protect themselves against infections; this would ensure that they continue to provide care and prevent the risk of depletion of healthcare staff, amidst biting challenges of staff shortages (Adams & Walls, 2020). The relevant concepts include community transmission and confirmed infections or suspected infections among the healthcare personnel, in a context of limited resources for example shortages of facemasks, N95 filtering facepiece respirators, eye protection, gloves, and gowns (CDC, 2020).
