The medulla oblongata, pons, and midbrain are the three sections of the brain stem (brainstem). 
The medulla oblongata is where nerves emerge from this region, and the nuclei are located. It is located between the spinal cord and the pons. The medulla oblongata is a pyramid-shaped extension of the spinal cord. It helps to pass messages between the spinal cord and brain and regulate the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. It helps regulate different autonomic functions such as blood pressure and respiratory rhythm.
Pons: This is part of the brain that connects the cerebellum to the brainstem. The motor and sensory fiber tracts connect the brain with lower CNS centers (Marieb& Smith, 2016). There are tracts and relay centers, while the pons have nuclei necessary for somatic and visceral motor control
Midbrain: This contains nuclei that process visual and auditory information and control reflexes triggered by the stimuli (Marieb& Smith, 2016). The region has nerve cells that help in maintaining consciousness. Categorize the brainstem, cerebellum, and cerebrum in terms of anatomy and functions.
The brainstem is the distal part of the brain divided into the midbrain, the pons, and the medulla oblongata (Marieb & Smith, 2016). Each of the three components their own unique structure and function and they all help to regulate important functions such as blood pressure and the heart rate. The medulla oblongata is the lowest brain stem region and is mainly composed of the fiber tracts (Marieb & Smith, 2016). The cerebellum "little brain" has a narrow midline area and hemispheres or lateral lobes. Like the other parts of the central nervous system, the cerebellum is made up of white matter and gray matter. The white matter, formed by bundles of myelinated and gray matter, is mainly made up of nerve cells and their processes lacking myelin layer. In the gray matter, the cerebellar cortex and cerebellar nuclei are responsible for involuntary coordination and control of body movements (Marieb & Smith, 2016). It is a reflex center that acts in coordination and maintaining balance. The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain and is made up of the right and left hemispheres and has motor, sensory, and association areas that allow higher mental functions. Conscious thoughts and intellectual functions come from the cerebral hemispheres and the interior consists of white matter.

The ventricles of the brain consist of two lateral ventricles, the third and fourth ventricles, and their passageways which are the interventricular foramen and cerebral aqueduct. The ventricles are filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and the choroid plexus of the ventricles mostly produce CSF. Ependymal cells line the ventricles, and it is these cells that produce (CSF) that fills the ventricles and continuously circulates in the CNS (Marieb & Smith, 2016).
