The skeletal muscle is made up of relatively large, long cylindrical cells (fibers) (Marieb & Smith, 2016). The skeletal muscle cell is striated. When observed with the light microscope, bands of light and dark patterns are arranged next to the cell's major axis. This banding is a result of the superposition of the cytoskeletal filaments that form the myofibrils. The dark bands are called A-band because of anisotropy.
