Reading is crucial to develop a student’s cognitive abilities. However, it is always best to conduct an initial assessment of the different reading skills of the student in order to determine where the teacher should focus and the particular activities to achieve his goals CITATION Onlnd \l 1033 (OnlineAssessmentTool.com, n.d.). In line with the Text Reading Efficiency Procedures conducted with the student, the teacher was able to determine that the best approach for the student is a combination of intensive reading and enrichment (IR-EN).
The result was derived from the use of tools for determination of fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension of the student. Initially, the student was asked to read the passage entitled Penguin and was evaluated for the number of word errors that were committed. After a minute, the number of words read and the quantity of word errors were counted to determine the student’s risk factor which resulted a grade of LR (Low Risk). Generally, lower risks evaluations show that a student is fluent in the language and is able to understand or recognize a greater number of words as compared to those with a higher risk assessment CITATION Unind1 \l 1033 (University of Oregon, n.d.).
