Researchers intending to carry out research involving human subjects must undergo mandatory training. One of the reasons the training is mandatory is to ensure research follows set ethical guidelines and avoid unethical behavior when doing research involving human subjects (White, 2020). It is important to recognize that the history of health studies in the U.S. is characterized by several ethical violations some of which put the lives of participants at risk. According to White (2020), twelve research studies carried out in 1964 showed serious ethical concerns. The Tuskegee study and the Milgram experiments also depict serious ethical concerns that necessitate researchers to follow specific ethical guidelines when dealing with human subjects.
In the Tuskegee study, the U.S. Public Health Service decided that African American participants should continue without treatment because the study was “too important to abandon”...
