People can succeed by combining intelligence, perseverance, discipline, and hard work. Even though intelligence can be inherited, a person can still work hard to enhance cognitive abilities. When a person is born, their mind is like a blank slate, but through a series of skills they acquire, they eventually become capable of logical thinking because the brain can change (Brown, 2014). A person’s cognitive ability develops over time and does not stagnate. It grows due to a person’s efforts to learn and discover new things constantly. For instance, people who struggled with problem-solving when they were younger will undoubtedly improve their skills if they consistently put forth the effort to learn. Indeed, purposeful learning affects the brain positively.
Brown (2014) reveals how to improve one’s cognitive abilities. Fortunately, these strategies benefit teachers and students, particularly those who teach American Sign Language. Teachers can introduce and use the methods mentioned to help students understand more about ASL. The teacher can also use the strategies mentioned to encourage learning among students. Furthermore, students can choose the best method to improve their cognitive abilities. Therefore, teachers and students can employ purposeful learning to enhance their cognitive ability, allowing for a better understanding of lessons, specifically American Sign Language.
