The author, Rosen, evaluates the American Sign Language (ASL) curriculum to come up with multiple ideas. She begins by highlighting how ASL has developed in the last 20 years. In 1987, out of the 1650 secondary schools surveyed, only 1% offered the ASL curriculum. However, the number increased to 701 in 2005.
